Restorative Justice Conferencing in Schools

(Managed by Medway Mediation)

Every Child Matters outcomes met:

  • staying safe

  • enjoying and achieving

  • making a positive contribution

Restorative Justice in schools is a combination of  Peer Mediation,  a process in which students in conflict are guided by two trained peer mediators through a series of steps so that they can find their own way of resolving problems and Restorative Conferencing, which brings together offending students aged 8 - 13 with those affected by their behaviour to reach solutions (delivered by trained facilitators from within school and the wider community).  Both interventions provide a  means of addressing offending and anti social behaviour by young people in school and enable them to take responsibility for their actions, recognising the harm that has been caused and agreeing how that harm can be put right.  Peer Mediation deals with the lower end of conflict whilst Restorative  Conferencing aims to target those young people whose behaviour places them at risk of exclusion.   Currently working in: All Saints Primary, Balfour Junior, Bligh Junior, Brompton Westbrook Primary, Byron Primary, Chatham South, Cuxton Community Junior, Delce Junior, Featherby Junior, Glencoe Junior, Greenacre, Hempstead Junior, Lordswood Junior, Luton Junior, Maundene, Medway Community College, Napier Primary, New Brompton College, New Road Primary, Rainham School for Girls, St John Fisher, Saxon Way Primary, Skinner Street Primary, Temple School, Temple Mill Primary, Thamesview Junior, The Howard School, The Hundred of Hoo, Thomas Aveling, Walderslade Girls' School, Wayfield Primary, Woodlands Primary.
