Children's Fund Medway (CFM) was part of a
national Government programme piloting new
preventative services to improve the lives of 5-13 year old children,
young people and their families. CFM was led by a successful and inclusive
multi-agency
Partnership, comprising an equal mix of voluntary organisations,
statutory agencies and the community sector. All Children's Fund programmes
come to an end on 31 March 2008 but CF funding will continue directly to
Local Authorities at the 2007/8 level until 2011 to fund preventative
services. This website will not be updated after 31 March 2008 but will
remain as a resource until May 2009.
CFM is proud to have nurtured many excellent Projects, six of which have been approved by the Medway Children and Young People’s Strategic Partnership (CYPSP) to be supported from continuing Children’s Fund monies. A number of others will continue with reduced funding from partners. All funded projects will be reviewed by Medway Council and/or Medway Primary Care Trust during 2008/9. Others will continue through the tools and systems they have embedded. Impact evaluations on individual projects can be accessed via the Projects or Evaluation pages, as can the contact details for these projects. CFM is most proud of its innovative children’s forum the Cool Kids Club (CKC) which has been recognised as a unique group, comprising a mix of children and young people from diverse and challenging backgrounds, supported by volunteer mentors from other more typical forums. CKC is hopeful it will receive the funding to continue and expand under the management of Kent Children's Fund Network, a Kent-wide charity whose focus is participation, play and capacity building. Other successes achieved by CFM include · Participation of children, young people and families now features as a specific objective of the Medway workforce development plan. One main feature of CFM has always been to encourage the real involvement of children and young people in the development of children's services in Medway. A participation strategy is also being considered by CYPSP. · Robust mechanisms have been developed for commissioning, evaluating and, where necessary, decommissioning services and this learning had been shared widely · Pooled budget arrangements were successfully deployed for a number of projects · Effective and transparent Partnership arrangements were deployed throughout CFM's existence We hope that CFM's legacy will live on for many years to come and that intervention and prevention will become embedded in the delivery of children's services, so that children and families receive the help they need, both saving anguish and reducing the cost of acute services.
